In the 70's El Salvador was living under a military dictatorship. In 1979 the government granted some social reforms with the aim of decrease the forces of the guerrilla. One of these new measures was the Agrarian Reform. In the Peace Agreements, signed in 1992 and that meant the end of twelve years of war, included land compensations for ex-combatant. The co-operatives created in that context didn’t receive any support from the State. A lot of these organisations were pushed to fail. However, in spite of the obstacles, a part of the cooperative movement has managed to survive.
